Dear Chairman Johnson and Board Members Dobbins, Donovan, and Washington,
On behalf of Earth Day Coalition I am writing to oppose the Zoning Code Special Use Variance requested from W.B. and M.E. Bauman and Bradley Road, Incorporated for parcel numbers 009-36-001, 009-36-002, 009-36-005, 009-36-006, 009-36-007, 009-34-002, and 009-34-004.
Northeast Ohio is not meeting the fine particle pollution health-based standards (National Ambient Air Quality Standards) of the federal Clean Air Act. The proposed operation would likely add to particulate pollution. Many Cleveland residents are already suffering from breathing unhealthy air.
Although these types of operations may primarily produce coarser particles we remain concerned about strip mining for clay and sand on 8.2 acres within the city limits both for the residents of Sky Lane and Bradley Road, and for the residents of Cleveland. Potential increased truck traffic is also a concern.
We are also concerned about water quality impacts on the two creeks near the proposed site and the proposed pond storage.
Thank you for your attention to our concerns, and again we urge the Board of Zoning Appeals to deny this variance request.
